AAIB Launches Egypt SME Fund

The Egypt SME Fund is part of AAIB’s strategy to promote and assist Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Egypt given their significant contribution to the Egyptian economy.

AAIB together with the Industrial Modernization Centre (IMC) launched the Egypt SME Fund with a target size of EGP 300 – 500 million on the 20th of December 2009 with the attendance of H.E Rashid Mohamed Rashid, Minister of Trade and Industry, and H.E Mahmoud Mohieldin, Minister of Investment.

The Fund will target privately owned industrial companies with the potential of high growth in need of expansion.

Both equity and/or mezzanine financing may be provided to investee companies.  The Egypt SME Fund will be the first fund for SMEs to introduce mezzanine financing to investee companies.

The Egypt SME Fund aims to achieve a target IRR of 25% through investing primarily in minority stakes in SMEs.
